STS Group Leader

What does it mean to be a Group Leader for STS?

The Group Leader is the face of STS during the programme. The nature of this position is to be responsible for a specific group of 15-25 students between the ages of 9-19 throughout their entire journey and make sure that they get the best trip imaginable!

Being a Group Leader is a rewarding experience as you get to gain work experience, travel the world and do fun activities with the students at the same time. This position enables you to learn and develop your skills in problem solving, teamwork, leadership, cultural awareness and so much more! And of course making lifelong friendships with people from all over the world along the way. Being a group leader is without a doubt one of the hardest jobs you'll ever love!

 What does a Group Leader do?

Our Group Leader positions cover a range of different jobs tasks depending on the trip. Our different trips are as follows - Language Trip, Confirmation Trip & Welcome Camp Trips. While there are subtle differences between the roles thay have overall the same expectations. Our Group Leaders will be the students' go-to-person, a responsible and reliable adult that can be a friend that listens, a parent that sets boundaries and an enthusiastic leader that stays positive, calm and creative when unexpected things happen. 


Language Trip Group Leaders:

  • Travel/Fly to the destination with group of students
  • Be the daily support needed for students
  • Take care of the safety and wellbeing of students
  • Ensure that the students are following the rules
  • Be the parents immediate contact throughout the entire trip
  • Together with other leaders, make sure that all the activities are being carried out on time and smoothly!
  • Every day will be different - One day can be a tour of the local destination, the next day could be hosting a disco night
  • Will work every day of the trip
  • Trips last 2-3 weeks (There is always an option to request to do multiple trips)
  • Destinations are world wide


Confirmation Trip Group Leaders:

  • Travel/Fly to the destination with group of students
  • Be the daily support needed for students
  • Take care of the safety and wellbeing of students
  • Ensure that the students are following the rules
  • Be the parents immediate contact throughout the entire trip
  • Together with other leaders, make sure that all the activities are being carried out on time and smoothly!
  • Every day will be different - One day can be a tour of the local destination, the next day could be hosting a disco night
  • Will work every day of the trip
  • The Confirmation Trip lasts 4 weeks 
  • Destination is Malta

Welcome Camp Group Leaders:

Our Welcome Camp Leaders are working at our Welcome Camps - primarily in NYC or Paris. These camps are designed for our highschool students who will begin an exchange year, the camp gives them the tools they need to succeed in their year abroad. We want to start their adventure off right, with a camp!

In this context, leaders are responsible for following up on logistics and planning and participating in activities on site. Experience in being on an exchange year is paramount, as we love for our leaders to share their experiences with the students. 

  • Host Welcome Camp Workshops with all students
  • Accompany students on tours and activities in the destination
  • Be the immediate support needed for the students
  • Be the immediate contact for the parents
  • The camps rotates every 4 days, so a constant rotation of students will be in play 
  • Contract lengths can very - 3 to 5 weeks typicaly
  • Together with other leaders, make sure that all the activities are being carried out on time and smoothly
